Coniston Power Boat Records Week, Lake District Event Photography

Last Monday I popped down to Coniston to see some of the power boats that were all trying to break world records. The weather was a little rough in the morning so only the off shore boats were running; however, they were still achieving speeds well in access of 100mph. The fastest times of the week were around the 150mph mark, very fast on water!
Coniston Power Boat Records Week is the only event in the Powerboat Racing Calendar to bring together all classes of boat. Entry is open to all from tiny hydroplanes, through inshore circuit racers to the largest offshore boats. It is the finale to the racing season. Competitors and officials from all over the country assemble annually for what has been a popular event since its inception in 1970.
Following the introduction of the Windermere speed limit in early 2005 and after a good deal of effort from many volunteers, Records Week 2005 took place on Coniston Water over a newly surveyed kilometre course.
Although I was only there for a short time I did manage to capture some great images from this Lake District event.
