Chris and Laura’s wedding at St Bega’s Church, Bassenthwaite and Armathwaite Hall, Keswick

There are a few venues in the Lake District that are fantastic to photograph weddings, 2 of these are St Bega’s Church on the shores of Bassethwaite and Armathwaite Hall. As you can image I was very pleased to be asked by Chris and Laura to photograph their wedding which would be held at both of these locations. Sadly, the weather on the day put some serious restrictions on what we were able to achieve!
I caught up with Chris and Laura a few weeks before the wedding for a pre-wedding shoot at Crummock, I really do think that the pre-wedding shoots are a great way to get to know the couple better and for them to also build up their confidence in front of the camera and be more comfortable on the big day. I have put a couple of pictures in from this shoot below.
On the day I headed to Keswick to get some bridal preparation shots at Laura’s parents B&B, ‘Cherry Trees’. Laura’s fantastic wedding dress was made by the renowned designer, ‘Ian Stuart’, flowers by her friend ‘Frances Camm’, hair by ‘Jingles’ and her make up was by ‘Star Beauty’, both in Keswick. The cars on the day were supplied by ‘Jeff Higham’ who also supplied the videography for the day and the Piper was ‘Alan Gagan’ who is the five times Northern England bagpipe champion.
After the bridal shots there was a short journey onto St Bega’s Church. The church is in fields on the East shore of Bassenthwaite Lake. It is dedicated to the Celtic Saint, Bega. The building dates from about AD 950, though the site may be older. It was extensively restored in 1874.
After the service we were unable to use the fantastic setting of St Bega’s because of the weather which was such a shame as I know both Chris and Laura had hoped we could get some shots that really embraced the landscape around.
The reception venue was Armathwaite Hall, quiet possible one of the best wedding venues in the Lake District, with great settings, facilities and service. Once the rain had stopped we managed to get outside after the meal for some more shots, again, it was such a shame we were not able to use all of the photographic opportunities that Armathwaite Hall has to offer.
The evening entertainment was supplied by ‘PC roadshow’.
Below is a selection of images from this Lake District wedding.

Just want to say a massive thank you Chris, we absolutly luv the pictures and we are so pleased we picked you to photograph our wedding.
Thank you so much
