Michael and Joanne's wedding at St John Church, Dumfries and Mabie House Hotel, Scotland

On the 06th April I had a trip up to Dumfries in Scotland for the wedding of Michael and Joanne. The weather for the few days before the wedding had been terrible with high winds and torrential rain. Fortunately on the morning of the wedding the rains stopped and the winds subsided. I do very much enjoy travelling to new venues and this was my first visit to Dumfries, something that is also enjoyable about the majority of the Scottish weddings that I have photographed is the relaxed manor in which the services are held. They seem a lot more about the couple getting married and the emphasis is on the celebration side of the day. They had hired the services of Andrew Wheeler of ‘Solway Piper’ to play throughout the day, very professional with a great talent.
The church of St John’s is a great venue and certainly a wonderful place for photographs, one of my favourite images is Joanne about to step out of the car and the reflection of her father in the window with a look of pride on his face. It was also fantastic to have the freedom to move around and capture a variety of shots including another one of my favourites of the little girl who turned round just at the right moment while I was in the aisle.
After the service Michael and Joanne had an open horse and carriage ride to Mabie House Hotel, this is a small venue but well set in its own gardens and also well run. I had a small list of formal photographs to work through before capturing some more contemporary ones of the bride and groom before they headed inside for the speeches.
Below is a selection from their wedding day, the full album can be viewed in my ‘Clients Galleries’
