Philip and Lisa’s wedding at Slaley Hall, Hexham, Northumberland.

At the end of August I travelled over to Slaley Hall near Hexham to photograph the wedding of Philip and Lisa. I first met the couple in July 2010 and recently we met up again for a chat about the upcoming big day and also pre-wedding shoot at Penrith Castle. (I have put a couple of pictures in from this shoot below.)

I had hoped for great weather for their wedding day as Slaley Hall is a fantastic location with great photographic opportunities, however, the Northumbian weather had better ideas. It was a huge relief that in the early evening there was a break in the torrential rain and I was able to get a few photographs of Philip and Lisa in the grounds of the Hall.

Slaley Hall has made its name in recent year as one of Europe foremost golfing resorts and hosts some of the world major competitions. An Edwardian mansion in 1000 acres of Northumberland moorland and forest, De Vere Slaley Hall owes its existence to Samuel Hunting who first purchased the estate lands in the late 1800's and it remains today a symbol of Edwardian elegance and a grand retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and is now an elegant luxury hotel and superb wedding venue in the North East. Challenging for photography inside due to the interior design and décor, however, I certainly think we managed to exploit this with some great shots using only the ambient light available.

Both Philip and Lisa had spent a great deal of time and effort with the details for their wedding, with Lisa’s beautiful dress made by ‘Alfred Angelo’, the flowers supplied by ‘Gwen’, Slaley Hall’s resident florist, the car for the day was from ‘Campbell Wedding Cars’. Lisa and her 2 bridesmaid hair and make-up were prepared by Lucy Ward who is based in Billingham.
