Start where you are

Less noise. More confidence.

Wedding planning can quickly become a swirl of opinions, checklists and things you are told you “must” do. This guide keeps it simpler. It brings together the questions couples ask me most, with clear advice drawn from real Lake District weddings.

Dip into whatever is useful now — from making confetti photographs work beautifully to choosing the photographs for your wedding album — and come back as your plans develop.

Plan for the feeling, not just the timetable.

The best photographs come when there is room to breathe, laugh and be yourselves. Good planning protects those moments without turning your wedding into a photoshoot.

Your plans will not look exactly like anyone else’s.

Behind the advice

Wedding advice shaped by real Lake District weddings.

I’m Chris Freer, a Lake District wedding photographer based in Cockermouth. I photographed my first wedding in 2005 and have now been part of more than 1,500 wedding days, from couple-only elopements to large celebrations and full wedding weekends.

That experience has shown me that there is no single correct way to arrange a wedding. The best plans give the important people and moments room to breathe. My approach is calm, documentary-led and gently guided when guidance helps — without turning the day into a prolonged photoshoot.
