Many of my couples travel here for the landscape, so we’ll use it — quietly and naturally. Sometimes that’s five minutes outside the venue. Sometimes it’s a short early-evening breather later on. As adventurous as you’d like — and never more than that.

I now offer wedding highlight films as an optional add-on to my Lake District wedding photography packages. Photography will always be my priority, but using professional hybrid cameras, a DJI gimbal and (where time and weather allow) licensed drone footage, I can also create a beautifully edited 5–6 minute wedding highlight film.

My approach to wedding photography is natural, relaxed and fun — and the highlight films follow the same storytelling style. Rather than staged scenes, the film captures real moments and the atmosphere of your day (the bits you feel… and the bits you missed).

While I’m photographing, I can seamlessly capture short video clips during key moments without interrupting the flow of the day. These clips are then carefully combined to create a short, cinematic highlights video that complements your wedding gallery perfectly.

One of the biggest reasons couples book me is because I keep things relaxed. I work quickly and efficiently for the formal group photos you want, but the majority of the day is captured in a documentary / reportage style — natural reactions, laughter, happy tears and the moments you don’t even realise are happening.

This unobtrusive approach also makes it possible to capture short video clips at the same time, without turning your wedding into a “production”. The end result is a highlight film that feels genuine, story-driven and true to your day.

Wedding Drone Photography & Aerial Film in the Lake District

I’m a registered CAA drone pilot and use DJI drone technology to capture dramatic aerial wedding photos and cinematic establishing footage when conditions and the venue setting are suitable.

Where possible, I’ll arrive early to capture venue shots that show the incredible landscape surrounding your wedding location — one of the biggest reasons couples choose the Lake District in the first place. This footage can also be used in your highlight film and in social reels should you wish.

A Great Add-On — Not a Replacement for a Wedding Videographer

Wedding highlight films are designed to complement your photography, not replace a dedicated wedding videographer or filmmaker. A full-time videographer can provide longer, more detailed coverage, often including full ceremony and speeches with recorded sound. My highlight films are different — they are short, music-led films made up of carefully selected clips, with no live audio recorded, designed to capture the atmosphere rather than document the day in full.

If you’re considering both photography and full videography, I’m always happy to recommend trusted professionals I’ve worked alongside over the years. And if you’d like a beautifully crafted short film that captures the emotion and atmosphere of your day, a highlight film is a perfect addition.

Yes. Your highlight film is set to licensed music so you can share it online with peace of mind.
Will you record our full ceremony and speeches?
No — the highlight film is made up of short clips from key moments throughout the day. It does not include full ceremony coverage or full speeches with live audio. If you’d like the entire ceremony and speeches captured with sound, a dedicated wedding videographer would be the best option.
Will we get a version for phones and sharing?
Yes — you’ll receive a high-resolution download plus a mobile-friendly version that’s easy to save and share.
Can we still book a separate videographer?

This page is the “what it feels like” bit

The home page is the calm invite. Most people will head straight to weddings, prices, or contact — sensible. If you’re spending a little longer here, this page explains how I work through the day, what I prioritise, and how I keep things flowing without turning it into a photoshoot.

I’m there to document what’s actually happening — atmosphere, emotion, and the small interactions — and then step in gently when needed (group photos, portraits, timing nudges, and the occasional “shall we just… step outside for ten minutes?”).

Arrive early — scene-set, then relax

I’m usually there two to two-and-a-half hours before. If the weather’s good, I’ll get the drone up and photograph the venue in its surroundings — it sets the story properly. If you’ve added a highlight film, it’s also the perfect time for cinematic establishing shots.

Preparations — candid, calm, respectful

Prep starts candid. I don’t direct, I don’t rearrange the room, and I don’t turn it into a styled shoot — I blend in. Details matter, but less is more. If you gather a few key items together (rings, invites, shoes, perfume, flowers), I can photograph them quickly and then it’s back to what’s actually happening.

Usually it’s the final bit of prep — tie, jacket, a few laughs — then (if time allows) a short wander. Most groomsmen don’t love posing, so we keep it simple: walking, talking, and letting it look like you.

The ceremony — discreet is everything

The ceremony isn’t a performance. It’s personal. So I don’t run around. I don’t distract. I position carefully and anticipate moments — your walk down the aisle, reactions at the front, and the small expressions in-between.

Confetti & congratulations — let it happen

Confetti is colourful, chaotic, full of movement and genuine reactions. Then comes drinks reception: people will want hugs, people will want selfies — this is going to happen whether you like it or not. Embrace it. That time belongs to you and your guests.

Group photographs — efficient, not endless

A couple of months before, you’ll fill in your group photo list. It isn’t written in stone — change it on the day if you want. But having it means I can run it quickly without pestering you or shouting names like it’s a school register.

Portraits — walking, talking, done in 10–20 minutes

Portraits don’t need to be a big “thing”. We’ll go for a wander, keep it relaxed, and I’ll work fast enough that you don’t have time to overthink where your hands should be. (A sentence nobody has ever said joyfully.)

Wedding breakfast & speeches — discreet, then you eat in peace

I’ll photograph the room set-up, your reactions when you first see it, and the atmosphere as guests come in. During speeches I’m very respectful — silent cameras, no flash, no drama. Then I’ll leave you to enjoy your meal. Nobody looks good with a face full of food (including me), so it’s a good moment for a breather.

After speeches — the soft light window

After food (and before the evening properly kicks off) there’s often a perfect little window for some absolutely amazing photographs. You’re more relaxed, the pressure has lifted, and the light is usually softer. Ten to fifteen minutes can give you some of the best images of the day.

When the weather has other ideas

We always plan for sunshine — but we prepare properly for the opposite. Outdoor ceremonies sometimes move inside, and many Lake District venues have beautiful indoor options.

If guests don’t want to step outside, we’ll keep groups indoors. But once the important things are covered, if you’re happy to step out with an umbrella, we will. I will never be the one saying we can’t go out there. Rain doesn’t ruin a wedding day — it just changes the light.

Night shots — if you’re up for it

In winter the daylight disappears early — so we lean into the night. Even if it’s raining, we can create something properly dramatic. I’ll be as brave as you want me to be. (Within reason. I do still have to drive home.)

If it’s dark, we don’t fight it — we use it.

Evening — party atmosphere, not staged

Once the evening kicks off, it’s all about atmosphere: people arriving, catching up, dancing, and those “how is this happening?” moments. For the first dance: do 10–20 seconds if you want, then get everyone up. It doesn’t have to be awkward unless you insist on a full choreography routine.

The Irish goodbye

I’ll usually say a proper goodbye just before the first dance — a quick check-in, make sure you’re happy, then I’ll disappear quietly. The last thing you want is me tapping you on the shoulder mid-dancefloor like a teacher with homework.

My job is simple: keep it calm, keep it moving, and photograph the day as it actually felt — not how it “should” look on a moodboard.

Timeline tips for a relaxed Merewood wedding

The easiest way to keep photography calm (and keep you with your guests) is to build in two short portrait windows rather than one long session.

  • 10 minutes after the ceremony for quick portraits close to the venue.
  • 10 minutes later (often near sunset) for softer light and a second look.
  • Family photos straight after the ceremony keeps it efficient.
  • If it rains, we use interiors and window light, then step out briefly when it eases.

How much time do we need for portraits at Merewood?
Typically 10–20 minutes total, split into two short windows. That keeps your timeline guest-first while still giving variety and beautiful light.
What if it rains on the day?
Merewood is great in bad weather. The interiors offer elegant backdrops and flattering window light, and we can step outside briefly if the rain eases.
Do you guide us for portraits and group photos?
Yes — in a calm, natural way. Coverage is mostly documentary, with gentle guidance for portraits and efficient group photos so things stay relaxed.

Outdoor family portrait photo walks, lifestyle shoots and children’s wellie walks are a fantastic way to capture beautiful, playful and fun images of that you can keep for a lifetime.

From the 16th June I maybe able to start offering my outdoor Lake District family photo-shoots and I have created a new option along with also offering a £75 discount on my original, standard photo-shoot packages.

Maybe you are visiting the Lake District for a day out or are living here and would just like to capture some special moments in time to cherish forever.

With my photo-shoots and especially with my style of photography, I want to create the opportunity to capture something slightly different. I create a very relaxed environment for you and also let children be children in the great outdoors.

It goes without saying that we’ll obviously adhere to the government and local Lake District authority guidelines at all times as safety for everybody will be paramount, but these details will be discussed so we are all very much aware of what to expect.

While local parks can offer some great opportunities, the Lake District is the perfect backdrop with some amazing scenery that is packed with stunning locations for photography. We’ll go for a walk in the woods, around the lakes, up the Cumbrian Fells or even head to the beach. We can either use a favourite location of yours or I can suggest somewhere suitable and together we’ll create beautiful, natural photos of you and your family, or we can set up some dramatic portraits if required.

 

There are just three package options for the photo-shoots, so it’s all nice and simple.

The first is the digital only package where you will receive all of the edited digital images in high-resolution. These will be supplied via digital download from your online, password-protected viewing gallery. You will also receive a letter of image rights release, meaning you can use these images for any personal use. There is also the option to order professional quality prints and wall art directly from your online gallery.

 

OPTION 1

The cost of this package is £195 for a 45-minute midweek shoot or £245 for weekend bookings.

 

OPTION 2

The cost of this package is £325 for a two-hour midweek shoot or £385 for weekend bookings.

 

OPTION 3

The second package option has the addition of a Deluxe Album Set with an 8” x 8” 20-page album, with all the images also shared on a matching USB stick. The high-quality album and USB boxset are the perfect form of digital-meets-traditional and will bring a true lifestyle feel to your family photo-shoot package. This clever combo contains an exceptionally high quality, photographically printed album with 20 photographic spreads and a USB stick, beautifully presented in a deluxe boxset.

The cost of this package is £575 for a two-hour midweek booking or £645 for weekend shoots.
