Home / Venues
Wedding venues across Cumbria and the Lake District
This hub is a growing guide to venues I know, venues I photograph at, and venues couples are clearly talking about when they’re planning a Lake District or Cumbrian wedding.
I’ve kept the layout fair and easy to scan. Some venues have dedicated pages already, some are marked as coming soon, and some newer additions have been added because they are popular online, on social media, or keep popping up in real wedding conversations. Very scientific, with just enough “I keep seeing this place everywhere” energy.
My advice: choose the venue that feels like you, not the one that wins a committee meeting with seven aunties, a spreadsheet and a nervous dad holding a calculator.

How to choose the right Lake District wedding venue
The venue sets the rhythm of the whole day. The best one is not always the biggest, newest or most dramatic. It’s the one that fits how you want the day to feel.
Your people
Think about the guest experience
Accommodation, travel, room flow and weather backup matter more than people realise. A stunning venue is even better when nobody is lost, cold or quietly Googling taxi numbers.
Your style
Match the venue to your personality
Barns suit relaxed, informal days. Country houses feel elegant and contained. Lakeside venues bring the drama, especially if the weather behaves for at least twelve heroic minutes.
Your photos
Look for light, shelter and easy portrait spots
You don’t need to disappear for hours. The best venues give us quick options close by: window light, gardens, doorways, lakeshore, woodland or a view that doesn’t require hiking boots.
Planning your Lake District wedding
Useful next steps if you’re venue hunting, date checking or trying to work out what on earth happens next:
Hi, I’m Chris
A local photographer who knows these venues in all weathers
I’m based in Cumbria and photograph weddings across the Lake District. My approach is relaxed and mostly documentary, with gentle direction when it helps.
Local knowledge helps on a wedding day: where the light falls, where to hide from sideways rain, and which portrait spots are close enough that your guests don’t think you’ve joined a witness protection programme.

A printed wedding brochure
Thoughtfully designed and beautifully printed — a calm, tangible way to explore everything properly, away from screens and distractions.
Lake District wedding venue FAQs
What type of Lake District wedding venue should we choose?
Start with the feel of the day. Lakeside hotels are brilliant for scenery and guest convenience, barns suit relaxed countryside celebrations, and country houses or castles are great if you want everything to feel contained and elegant.
Are barn venues good for wedding photography?
Yes, especially when there is natural light, outdoor space nearby and a good wet-weather backup. Barn venues can be brilliant for relaxed documentary photography because people tend to settle in and enjoy themselves.
Should we choose a venue for the views?
Views help, obviously — we are in the Lake District, not a beige office car park. But flow, light, shelter, guest comfort and how the venue feels are just as important.
Can you photograph weddings at venues not listed here?
Absolutely. This page is a useful hub, not a fence. I photograph weddings across Cumbria, the Lake District and beyond, including venues I haven’t yet added to the guide.
