Eden Barn, a wedding venue with a very clear sense of place
Eden Barn is a family-run venue in the Upper Eden Valley near Kirkby Stephen, with that relaxed rustic feel couples often hope for when they start searching for a barn wedding venue.
The venue describes itself as an exclusive, licensed wedding barn set in 100 acres, with a strong focus on easy, relaxed and stress-free weddings. That is very much my sort of language. Nobody needs a wedding day that feels like a spreadsheet wearing perfume.
Photographically, Eden Barn gives you warm indoor atmosphere, countryside views, fairy lights, open outdoor space and plenty of room for natural guest moments.
Why Eden Barn works so well for weddings
A good wedding venue is not just about how it looks. It is about how the day feels, how easily people move around, and whether the plan gives you space to enjoy yourselves.
Family-run feel
There is a personal, relaxed quality that helps couples and guests settle in.
Rustic barn character
Stone, timber and fairy-light atmosphere suit candid coverage and warm evening photographs.
Open countryside
The 100-acre setting gives space, views and calmer portrait options close by.
Why Eden Barn photographs so well
The strongest wedding photographs usually come from a mix of setting, light and people being fully in the day. Eden Barn gives plenty of setting, so the important bit is not overworking it.
My approach is mostly documentary: real moments, natural reactions and the atmosphere of the day. For portraits, I keep things gently guided and quick enough that you do not feel as if you’ve accidentally booked a modelling workshop with a buffet afterwards.
If you’re still working out what sort of photography approach suits you, my guide to choosing the right wedding photographer may help you think through style, experience and whether you want a calm documentary approach or something more posed.

Portraits without disappearing for ages
I’d usually use one short portrait window and, if the weather and light behave, another later on. We get the setting without kidnapping you from your own wedding.
A sensible rain plan
Cumbria does occasionally throw weather at weddings like it has been personally offended. We use indoor options first, then step outside quickly when the weather gives us a gap.
Planning an Eden Barn wedding
A little help if you’re planning your day here
The best plan usually keeps portraits simple, group photos tidy and the day loose enough for real moments to happen naturally.
Timings that feel calm
A sensible flow keeps the day relaxed without turning it into a military operation with canapés.

Mostly documentary, with calm guidance when helpful. No turning the day into a styled shoot disguised as a wedding.

Hi, I’m Chris
A little about me and how I work
I’m based in Cockermouth and photograph weddings across the Lake District and Cumbria. I’m drawn to honest, natural moments and work in a calm, unhurried way, offering gentle direction when it’s helpful.
Eden Barn suits that approach beautifully: relaxed, characterful and full of the sort of little in-between moments that are far better than anything I could stage.
